Steve Jobs Retires as Apple CEO

The creator and driving force behind Apple, Steve Jobs, has retired from his position as CEO by sending a letter to the board. The innovative founder of Apple has been unwell since 2004 when he underwent a liver transplant following pancreatic cancer. The reason for resigning is still unknown.

The current Chief Operating Officer (COO) Tim Cook has been suggested by Jobs for the CEO role. Apple's share price dropped 5% on the announcement.

The Future

Mr Jobs has asked to remain within the Board as Chairman and provide what service he can as an Apple employee. The 56 year old's resignation stated "I believe Apple's brightest and most innovative days are ahead of it and I look forward to watching and contributing to its success in a new role.

"I have made some of the best friends of my life at Apple, and I thank you all for all the many years of being able to work alongside you."

The Past

The company was created in 1976 along with Steve Wozniak and Ronald Wayne but hit troubled times in the 1990's when Steve Jobs protected the company during a period of near Bankruptcy.

Apple is known for creating innovative products such as the IPhone, IPod & the IPad, among others.

  1. I've heard about the news. Steve Jobs will soon be a legendary man who brought innovation in electronic gadgets. Its just a pity that he has to resign because of health issues. Well, I'm half glad that he's resigning so that he could at least have a rest and take care of himself. Have a bite of Apple maybe. :)

    It's true Steve Jobs is a genuis. The story is sad for both Apple and the Apple faithful, although I read this week the new CEO was being given millions of shares along with a healthy pay packet.

    Let's hope Steve Jobs gets well soon.

  3. I hear about that also, no one really is invincible in this world, but surely he did the
    right decision to retire so that he can rest and take care of his health and enjoy his fruits of labor.

  5. And it looks like he worked right up to the point of his death. very sad. he must of been in so much pain yet he continued with what he believed in, an inspiration to the business community.
