Riots Impact British Tourism

An overseas advertising campaign by VisitBritain has been put on hold whilst the violence which spreads across the UK continues.

With the London 2012 Olympics just around the corner riots and journalists having to wear bullet / stab proof vests are far from the hospitable impression the London committee will have been wanting to create.

VisitBritain is monitoring the situation to evaluate when or if it is appropriate for the advertising to continue. It was announced in July 2011 tourism to Britain had increased 11% between March and May, spending just under £4Bn. The total cost of the riots are expected to run into the billions of pounds.

The riots are anticipated to cost millions of pounds to clean up, whilst insured home and shop owners face an anxious wait to see if their claim for insurance will be upheld.
