The court ruling states that anyone copying or supplying content from UK newspaper web content must acquire a licence from the Newspaper Licence Authority (NLA). The NLA is a body owned by the mainstream media.
The debate continues as companies such as Meltwater news will fight the decision, claiming that online content is without ownership and should be free for general consumption, similar to the medium of the internet itself.
It seems unlikely the ruling will change, but we look forward to the next instalment in September!
